Pandion haliaetus, better known as an Osprey, can teach you a thing or two or three about fishing. He or she (it's difficult to distinguish) put its fishing talents on display one Saturday at the Minor E. Clark Hatchery in Rowan County and I was lucky enough to have a front seat. I didn't get any feasting photos (yet), but caught some perched and in flight.
Quick Facts:
- Male & Female Ospreys usually mate for life
- Ospreys eat (almost) exclusively fish
- Established pairs usually return to their previous nest sites
- Ospreys can live beyond 25 years
